The invisible men: Developing an experience based co-design to support fathers experience in the NICU


Course Overview

This presentation will provide an overview of current evidence of fathers’ NICU experiences, and present the findings of the paternal engagement project using experience-based co-design (EBCD) conducted within a level 2 neonatal unit. A summary of the EBCD strategies that were developed to improve paternal experiences and enhance family centred care will also be provided.  Finally, the therapist’s reflections on applicability of the EBCD tool as a service-development tool will also be included.

 

Course Objectives

  • Critically review current literature on paternal experiences in NICU.
  • Describe the use of experience based co-design tool to develop an innovative model of service delivery.
  • Summarise and reflect on the strategies created to enhance paternal experience.
